$100,000 gift to benefit Math and Science Educational Programs
PLYMOUTH, Mich., April 16, 2007 – Aisin World Corp. of America (AWA), a worldwide supplier of automotive components, today presented a $100,000 donation to the SAE Foundation’s “Inspiring a New Generation” campaign. The presentation was made during the Aisin Group press conference at the 2007 SAE World Congress. The campaign supports ongoing SAE initiatives that encourage excellence in math and science, and help keep the automotive industry competitive in the world marketplace.
“The automotive industry needs to continually infuse itself with bright, young, and talented people,” said Don Whitsitt, executive vice president of Aisin World Corp. of America (AWA). “These young people will eventually take on the mantle of leadership in our industry, and we believe that it is our responsibility to foster the education and resources needed to develop these young people.”
AWA has long been a supporter of the SAE Foundation, and when contacted about the “Inspiring a New Generation” campaign by campaign chair Richard Wagoner, it committed to the $100,000 donation.
To date, said Whitsitt, the program has raised $18 million. “We’re proud to contribute toward the $20 million goal.”
Dan Hancock, Chairman of the SAE Foundation Board of Directors, accepted the donation. Program Chair Richard Wagoner, president and CEO of General Motors Corp. delivered a pre-recorded video message at the press conference.
