Aisin Group Provides Title Sponsorship for FIRST® Robotics District Competition
Detroit, Mich., April 7, 2017 – – Aisin Group, a world leader in the manufacturing and supply of automotive components and systems for nearly every global automaker, is pleased to again serve as the title sponsor the FIRST ® Robotics Michigan District Event being held at Churchill High School in Livonia on April 7-8, 2017.
“Aisin Group employs nearly 100,000 people around the world – people who design, engineer, manufacture and test all the components we produce.” said Genta Moriyama, Executive Vice President of Aisin Technical Center of America. “The car you drove in this morning is probably well-equipped with Aisin technology, and the kids that are driving to Churchill High School this weekend for this competition are the future of that technology.”
Combining the excitement of sport with the rigors of science and technology, FIRST ® Robotics is an innovative STEM-inspired program that pairs hands-on activity with one-on-one mentorship to develop invaluable skills in its participants both in and out of the classroom.
Students in grades 9-12 compete head to head on a special playing field with robots they have designed, built, and programmed. Under strict rules, limited resources, and an intense six-week time limit, teams of students are challenged to raise funds, design a team “brand,” hone teamwork skills, and build and program industrial-size robots to play a difficult field game against like-minded competitors. Teams of students are guided by volunteer mentors including engineers, teachers, business professionals, parents, alumni and more, making it as close to real-world engineering as a student can get. Each season ends with an exciting FIRST Championship. In addition to learning valuable STEM and life skills, participants are also eligible to apply for $50+ million in college scholarships.
“The Aisin Group slogan is ‘For A Better Tomorrow’, and that better tomorrow starts here, with these minds, with the passion that these students put into this project.” said John Clark, President of North American Sales & Marketing for Aisin Group. “FIRST ® Robotics benefits us all, because these students will become professionals, and they will drive the future of technology – in the automotive industry and beyond.”
