When a vehicle's brakes are applied too suddenly on slippery roads
or during emergency situations, the tires may lock, causing loss of traction and vehicle stability.
Antilock brake systems prevent tires from locking, which will then allow the vehicle to stop under
control while still maintaining steering control to avoid further obstacles.
